YAWAMA Dragons
Swim Team
Participation in YAWAMA Dragons builds lifelong skills. This is a great resource for official team clothing and accessories.
The YMCA is forming a parent advisory group for the swim team. If you are interested in being involved, please contact Coach Maxwell at mmaxwell@ymca-portland.org or 503.625.9622.
Congratulations
Congratulations to Aaron Paulson (USA) and Alice Luo (Chinese Taipei) for their races in the Paralympics in Beijing. Both finished 6th in the 100 Breast for their countries. Coach Mark Maxwell went with the T+Chinese Taipei team as the coach and Mark Rieniets was an official for these games for the physically disabled that follow the Olympics. Over 3000 athletes from around the world participated.
At the traditional season opening meet-the Tom Owen Memorial Invitational-the team of Sam Swaim, Max Swaim, Andrew Cichoski and Spencer Schaffer set a new team record in the 9-10 year old 200 Free Relay. The meet held annually by the Sherwood Swimming Association starts the Dragon short course season and the results (80% best times) showed the Dragons ready for all competition in the future. The SSA holds all of their regular season meets at the Linfield College pool in McMinnville.
Swim Season
There are two swim seasons a year, the short-course runs from September to March and the long-course runs from April to August.

Costs
Swim team cost varies depending on your practice group. There is also a cost for swim meets. In addition, all swimmers must be registered with USA Swimming. This national organization sets swimming standards in the United States, provides insurance coverage, provides training for officials and sanctions swim meets. Our team is a member of Oregon Swimming Inc, a member of USA Swimming. There is a yearly fee that includes a subscription to Splash magazine.
